Technician, Facilities Maintenance

Southport is looking to grow its dedicated team with the addition of a full-time Facilities Maintenance Technician. Reporting to the Foreman, Facilities Maintenance, the Facilities Maintenance Technician provides skilled trade support to construction projects, repair, and maintenance programs for Southport Aerospace Centre Inc.’s airport, commercial, and residential facilities (infrastructure, buildings, and land).

Job Requirements:

  • Provide project support.
  • Promote and follow safe work procedures.
  • Record hours and material costs on Work Orders.
  • Work a rotating on-call shift pattern.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment with little supervision.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent prioritizing, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Punctual and reliable.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma.
  • Experience with basic carpentry including painting, drywall, cleaning, and basic maintenance.
  • Skilled trades experience in plumbing or electrical would be considered an asset.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Competent in the use of various hand and power tools and related equipment.
  • Knowledge of general maintenance processes and methods.
  • Working knowledge of tools.
  • Good physical health and able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Valid Manitoba Class 5 driver’s license.
  • Clear Criminal Record Check required by the employee within one week of start date.
  • Current Airside Vehicle Operating Permit (AVOP) D/A license or be willing to obtain upon hire.
  • Basic First Aid Certificate, or willing to obtain upon hire.

Prior to the commencement of employment, the successful applicant will be required to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination by providing a Government of Manitoba issued QR code and photo identification or providing proof of an exemption from the COVID-19 vaccination approved by the Government of Manitoba.
