Southport is the location of the 3 Canadian Forces Flight Training School (CFFTS). There are special use training areas throughout the Southport Area Control Zone and priority is given to flight training operations.

There are 4 classes of airspace within the Southport region:

  • CLASS E: When the Tower is closed
  • CLASS G: Uncontrolled
  • CLASS F: Special use airspace

Authorization is required to operate within the Southport Area Control Zone. An Advanced Pilots License is required when operating inside a 3NM (5.6km) radius from the centre of the airport and 1NM (1.8km) from a heliport.
