Aircraft Rescue Firefighting (ARFF) Fire Chief

Southport is looking to grow its dedicated team with the addition of an Aircraft Rescue Firefighting (ARFF) Fire Chief who is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of Southport Aerospace Centre’s aircraft rescue and firefighting operations, ensuring compliance with Transport Canada standards and Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) 323 requirements. 


Reporting to the Director, Airfield Services, the Fire Chief oversees a team of ARFF personnel, manages emergency response readiness, coordinates training, and ensures the highest level of safety for airfield operations. This role combines operational leadership with strategic planning to maintain readiness for aircraft-related emergencies, structural firefighting, and other incidents across the site.

Job Responsibilities:

Operational Leadership:

  • Direct daily operations of the ARFF department, ensuring readiness for immediate emergency response.
  • Establish, implement, and maintain standard operating procedures for aircraft rescue, firefighting, and hazardous materials incidents.
  • Ensure fire suppression systems, rescue vehicles, and firefighting equipment are operational, inspected, and maintained to regulatory standards.
  • Emergency Response
  • Serve as Incident Commander during aircraft emergencies, fires, hazardous material incidents, and other emergencies.
  • Coordinate with air traffic services, emergency medical services, law enforcement, and other agencies during incidents.
  • Lead post-incident reviews, investigations, and documentation.

Training & Compliance:

  • Develop and oversee training programs to maintain Transport Canada and ICAO certification for all ARFF staff.
  • Conduct regular live-fire training, simulated emergency drills, and skills maintenance exercises.
  • Maintain all required records for inspections, certifications, and compliance audits.
  • Personnel Management
  • Supervise, schedule, and evaluate ARFF staff, ensuring effective performance and professional development.
  • Foster a safety-conscious, team-oriented culture.
  • Address staffing needs, recruitment, and succession planning.
  • Budget & Resource Management
  • Prepare and manage the ARFF department budget, including staffing, training, equipment, and facility needs.
  • Monitor inventory of firefighting gear, protective equipment, and vehicle maintenance requirements.
  • Research and recommend new technologies, tools, and procedures to enhance operational efficiency.

Experience:

  • Minimum 7–10 years of progressive firefighting experience, with at least 1 year as Chief or 3 years as Deputy or Captain.
  • Experience in ARFF operations at an airport, military base, or aviation training facility would be considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage emergency response teams in high-stress situations.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Emergency Management or Equivalent experience
  • Fire Officer Level 2
  • Hazmat Incident Commander
  • EMR Qualified

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong leadership, decision-making, and crisis management skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of aircraft firefighting techniques, aviation fuel hazards, and rescue operations.

Seasonal - Customer Service Representatives (Southport Golf Club)

Southport is seeking a Assistant Manager, Recreation (RecPlex). This position is a full-time, temporary position, anticipated start in May 2026 and to last approximately 12 Months. Reporting to the Manager, Recreational Facilities, the Assistant Manager, Recreation (RecPlex) oversees the daily operation of the Central Plains RecPlex by:

•    Providing exceptional customer service to all members of the Central Plains RecPlex.
•    Coordinating and managing daily recreation operations, including supervision of all part-time RecPlex staff members.
•    Participating in creation and achievement of all performance targets.
•    Assisting with budgeting for operational and capital requirements.
•    Manage Climbing Wall.

Key Responsibilities:

Administration:

  • In consultation with the Manager, Recreational Facilities, support the hiring, training, supervision, scheduling, and processing of timesheets for all Recreation staff.
  • Manage, follow, and keep all RecPlex staff apprised of all Workplace Health and Safety procedures.
  • Manage daily reconciliation and reporting of financials.
  • Implement new recreation and climbing/fitness programs.
  • Utilize appropriate operational procedures and processes.
  • Assist in preparation and monitoring of operating and capital budgets.
  • Track and report to Manager, Recreational Facilities on key performance indicator targets.

Facility Maintenance:

  • Oversee the maintenance of the RecPlex and grounds to ensure kept in a clean and functional condition.
  • Track and report on preventative maintenance program items for facilities and equipment.
  • Report on inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Process work orders through related electronic systems and programs for RecPlex related maintenance items.
  • Ensure the Climbing Wall is kept clean, safe, and functional condition.
  • Inspect and report on climbing equipment. (Shoes, harnesses, grigri, ropes, and anchors).
  • Inspect and schedule yearly maintenance for the wall and auto belays.
  • Ensure all workout equipment is maintained and in good repair throughout.

Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills necessary to relate to clients, staff, and the public.
  • Previous customer service experience in a recreational environment.
  • Previous experience in recreational promotion, marketing, and sales.
  • Previous experience supervising staff.
  • Previous experience performing administrative duties, budgeting, and reporting for fiscal purposes.

Seasonal - Clubhouse Cook

Southport is looking for applicants for a part-time, Seasonal – Clubhouse Cook at Southport Golf Club for the 2026 golf season (commencing approximately April 11, 2026, and ending approximately October 18, 2026). Preference will be given to candidates who can remain until the end of the season, either in a full-time or part-time capacity. Full time hours may be available for those who can also act as a Customer Service Representative at the Clubhouse front desk. There is potential for this position to transition to the RecPlex should operational requirements allow. The Seasonal – Clubhouse Cook is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operation of the Clubhouse kitchen through the preparation and cooking of a variety of dishes for members and guests of the clubhouse. The Cook’s culinary expertise will contribute to creating a delightful dining experience, ensuring high-quality food standards, and upholding the reputation of the clubhouse.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and coordinate with the Assistant Manager, Recreation the smooth, daily operation of the Clubhouse kitchen.
  • Plan, manage and prepare food in accordance with recipe specifications and customer orders.

Seasonal - Golf Course Maintenance Workers

Southport is looking to grow its dedicated team with the addition of two (2) part-time Seasonal - Golf Course Maintenance Workers at Southport Golf Club for the 2026 golf season (commencing approximately April 11, 2026, and ending approximately October 18, 2026), with variable schedules; up to full-time hours during peak golf season, at the Southport Golf Club. The Golf Course Maintenance Worker is responsible for maintaining the golf course grounds, greens, and associated work areas. The ideal candidate will be motivated to learn new skills and will take pride in their contribution to the high quality of the golf course grounds. The Golf Course Maintenance Worker will contribute to a welcoming experience for all members, guests, and other team members.

Primary responsibilities include performing routine maintenance tasks and landscaping projects while adhering to all safety protocols. You will work collaboratively with the golf course superintendent and other team members to maintain high standards of appearance and playability throughout the golf season.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform regular upkeep tasks such as mowing, edging, and watering greens, tees, fairways, and rough areas to maintain optimal playing conditions.
  • Assist with landscaping projects including sodding, planting, pruning, weeding, mulching, and fertilizing to enhance the aesthetic appearance of the golf course.
  • Operate and maintain a diverse range of equipment such as walking and riding greens mowers, tee mowers, fairway mowers, rough mowers, rollers, bunker rakes, carts, push mowers as well as a variety of hand and power tools, safely and efficiently.
  • Monitor and maintain irrigation systems to ensure proper watering of the course, adjusting as needed to optimize water usage and turf health.
  • Rake and maintain sand traps (bunkers) to ensure they are free of debris and provide a consistent playing surface.
  • Apply pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers in accordance with regulatory requirements and safety protocols to control weeds, pests, and maintain turf health.
  • Assist is setting up the course for daily play, tournaments, and events by placing tee markers, flags, and other course accessories.
  • Observe all safety practices and protocols set forth by the Southport Golf Club and Southport Aerospace Centre Inc. and adhere to all safety procedures and regulations while operating equipment and performing maintenance tasks. Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Work closely with the golf superintendent, and other maintenance personnel to prioritize tasks and ensure efficient operations of the golf course maintenance team.
  • Other tasks related to the maintenance of the Southport Golf Course and clubhouse buildings, as required.
  • Able to work weekends, early morning shifts, and holidays.

Job Requirements:

  • Applicants must be 16+ to operate machinery and ride-on vehicles.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of course appearance and playability.
  • Willingness to work early mornings, weekends and holidays as needed, particularly during peak golf season.
  • Work tasks are performed predominantly outdoors and involve physical strength, endurance, and manual dexterity to use and operate all necessary equipment.
  • Requires walking and standing for long periods of time. The duration of time will vary dependent on the specific task being accomplished.
  • Must be able to exert, lift, and carry heavy objects up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 25 pounds regular and perform manual labour for extended periods of time in various weather conditions.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
