Human Resources Assistant

Southport is looking to grow its dedicated team with the addition of a full-time Human Resources Assistant.  This role plays a key role in supporting the Human Resources (HR) department by managing payroll processes using ADP Workforce Now.  The ideal candidate will be responsible for running payroll, ensuring compliance with local labour laws, maintaining accurate employee records, supporting other HR functions, and maintaining confidentiality in handling sensitive information.

Key responsibilities:

Payroll Administration

  • Process bi-weekly/monthly payroll using ADP Workforce Now for a diverse workforce.
  • Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing, including hours worked, deductions, benefits, and overtime.
  • Maintain and update employee records in ADP, ensuring all relevant changes (e.g., salary adjustments, new hires, terminations) are reflected.
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll, benefits, and deductions.
  • Reconcile payroll discrepancies and ensure any issues are resolved promptly.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable payroll laws and regulations, including tax withholding and remittances.

Human Resource Administrative Support

  • Assist with the onboarding process for new employees, including preparing employment contracts, setting up employee records, and facilitating training.
  • Maintain confidential employee files and HR records.
  • Assist with benefits administration, including enrollment, changes, and employee inquiries.
  • Help in preparing HR-related reports as needed (e.g., turnover, attendance, payroll reports).
  • Coordinate and track employee time off (vacation, sick days, etc.) and attendance records.

Compliance & Reporting

  • Ensure that payroll processes are compliant with local labour laws and employment standards in Manitoba.
  • Assist in preparing payroll-related documents for audits, government filings, and tax remittances.
  • Stay current with payroll laws, regulations, and best practices in Manitoba and Canada.

Other Duties

  • Provide general HR administrative support, including answering phone calls, responding to emails, and assisting with other HR tasks as required.
  • Coordinate HR documentation, ensure policy compliance, and maintain confidential employee records.
  • Assist with recruitment, onboarding, training, and staff engagements.
  • Maintain positive relationships with employees to ensure effective communication and support.

Job Requirements:

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred).
  • 2+ years of experience in a payroll or HR administrative role, with a focus on payroll processing (experience with ADP Workforce Now is an asset).
  • Knowledge of payroll regulations and employment standards in Manitoba and Canada.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and payroll calculations.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with the utmost discretion and professionalism.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to run work-related errands as required.

Marketing Assistant Summer Student

Southport is looking for a Marketing Assistant Summer Student - Full-Time Term (April – September 2025).  Reporting to the Manager, Business Development, the Marketing Assistant will work directly with the Marketing Team.  This role offers an excellent opportunity for a student to gain practical experience in the marketing area while contributing to exciting projects within a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the marketing team with all marketing activities, including:
    • Developing and executing marketing campaigns across various channels, including digital, social media, email, and traditional marketing.
    • Assist in the creation of marketing materials, such as brochures, flyers, presentations, advertisements, and other literature.
    • The production of a wide range of communications.
    • Assist in maintaining and updating digital marketing platforms, including websites, social media profiles/sites and websites.
    • Collaborate with internal teams, including properties, recreation, and recruitment to ensure marketing initiatives align with overall business objectives.
    • Provide administrative support to the marketing department, including organizing files, scheduling meetings, managing correspondence, and maintenance of databases.
  • Help organize, coordinate, and attend marketing events, such as event launches, public relations events, and promotional activities, and
  • Supporting other Southport business units with a variety of tasks on site.

Position Requirements:

  • Possess or be enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in Marketing, Business Administration, Communications, or a related field, preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and familiarity with graphic design software, i.e. Adobe in Design and Adobe Photo Shop.
  • Basic understanding of digital marketing principles and social media platforms.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize tasks, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Personable, presentable, and articulate.
  • Sound understanding of marketing principles.
  • Strong administration, organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in social media management.
  • Experience with planning and executing events.

Facilities Maintenance Technician

Southport is looking to grow its dedicated team with the addition of a full-time Facilities Maintenance Technician. Reporting to the Foreman, Facilities Maintenance, the Facilities Maintenance Technician provides skilled trade support to construction projects, repair, and maintenance programs for Southport Aerospace Centre Inc.’s airport, commercial and residential facilities (infrastructure, buildings, and land).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide project support.
  • Promote and follow safe work procedures. 
  • Record hours and material costs on Work Orders.
  • Work a rotating on call shift pattern.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment with little supervision.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent prioritizing, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Punctual and reliable.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma.
  • Experience with basic carpentry including painting, drywall, cleaning, and basic maintenance.
  • Skilled trades experience in plumbing or electrical would be considered an asset.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Competent in the use of various hand and power tools and related equipment.
  • Knowledge of general maintenance processes and methods.
  • Working knowledge of tools.
  • Good physical health and able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Valid Manitoba Class 5 driver’s licence.
  • Clear Criminal Record Check.
  • Current Airside Vehicle Operating Permit (AVOP) D/A licence or be willing to obtain upon hire.
  • Basic First Aid Certificate, or willing to obtain upon hire.

Facilities Maintenance Summer Student

Southport is looking for a Facilities Maintenance Summer Student – Full-Time Term (April – August 2025); this position has been created to provide quality summer work experiences for young peoples, candidates must be between the ages of 16 to 29 years to apply.  The Facilities Maintenance Summer Student is responsible for supporting facilities operation by performing grounds keeping duties on site and providing support to facilities technicians for projects and daily duties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with facilities maintenance.
  • Performing manual labour and other duties as may be required for the effective and efficient operation of Southport.
  • Complete maintenance tasks as assigned following safe work procedures.
  • Assisting with maintenance, repair, and operations of Southport Commercial and Residential areas.
  • Utilize a diverse range of hand, power tools and instruments.
  • All other jobs as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Previous maintenance or landscaping experience would be considered an asset.
  • Work tasks are performed predominantly outdoors and involve physical strength, endurance, and manual dexterity to use and operate all necessary equipment.
  • Requires walking and standing for long periods of time.  The duration of time will vary dependent on the specific task being accomplished.
  • Must be able to exert, lift, and carry heavy objects up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 25 pounds regular and perform manual labour for extended periods of time in various weather conditions.
  • Must be able to work outdoors for long periods of time, often in hot or inclement weather.
  • Ability to work individually and as part of a team, with minimum supervision.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent prioritizing, multi-tasking, and critical thinking skills.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s licence.
  • Basic Administrative Duties.

Attendant, Recreation

Southport is looking to grow its dedicated team with the addition of a part-time Recreation Attendant. This role supports the Assistant Managers, Recreation by:

  • Providing exceptional customer service to all members of the Central Plains RecPlex, Southport Bowl, and at the Southport Golf Club Clubhouse, as required.
  • Performs daily duties to ensure smooth operations at either the Central Plains RecPlex, Southport Bowl, or Southport Golf Club Clubhouse efficiently and accurately including reception, food handling, and bowling alley tasks.
  • Maintains cleanliness of the facilities.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform all opening and closing procedures correctly.
  • Assist with familiarizing new recreation staff, as required.
  •  Assist with coordinating recreation programs and classes, as required.
  • Accurately operate electronic systems for processing payments and follow safe handling procedures for cash.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and functional environment across all areas (Central Plains RecPlex, Southport Bowl, or Southport Golf Club Clubhouse).
  • Track and report on preventative maintenance program items for facilities and equipment.
  • Process work orders through related electronic systems and programs for RecPlex, Southport Bowl related maintenance concerns.
  • Provide and foster a culture of exceptional customer service with co-workers.
  •  Assist with maintaining memberships and coordinating facility rentals.
  • Tend to duties associated with the food kiosk and Southport Bowl.

Job Requirements:

  • Excellent public relations, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Previous experience performing administrative duties and knowledge in MS Office 2007.
  • The ability to accurately operate electronic systems and follow safe handling procedures for cash when processing payments would be considered an asset.
  • Previous experience with maintenance and cleaning services in a recreation environment would be considered an asset.

  • Must be of legal age to serve alcohol.
  • Current Smart Choices certification or be willing to obtain same upon hire.
