Manager, Human Resources (HR)

Southport is looking to grow its dedicated team with the addition of a full-time Manager. Human Resources (HR) reporting to the Chief Financial Officer.

Job Responsibilities:


  • Prepare biweekly payroll and year-end reports
  • Administer all employee benefit programs including United Way donations'
  • Maintain and update all personal files
  • Organize staff events, including all staff meetings, lunches, gifts, awards, and special occasions
  • Apply for grants for payroll purposes
  • Monitor and report on vacation, wellness, and medical days

Human Resources

  • Consult with department leads to determine staffing levels and requirements
  • Coordinate recruitment and hiring activities, reviewing all applicants and resumes
  • Conducting screening interviews to assist department leads with hiring decisions
  • Coordinate new employee onboarding and orientation
  • Assist with the identification of training and development needs
  • Address employee relations issues in a confidential and timely manner, investigating concerns as required
  • Make initial contact with all employees on HR questions and concerns
  • Fit up all new employees with uniforms and appropriate devices
  • Verify and submit remittances (WCB, H/E Tax, etc.)
  • Maintain all forms and documents pertaining to HR including but not limited to the Employee Handbook, organizational chart, and phone lists, etc.
  • Act as Privacy Officer
  • Develop and report on an HR and IT budget
  • Outsource bi-annual Employee Satisfaction Surveys
  • Manage Southport's Diversity Plan
  • Suggest and report on HR Metrics/Analytics
  • Analyze, monitor and report on training plans
  • Research and bring forth trends in HR
  • Take part in the Strategic Plan and development of the HR functions

Job Requirements:

  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Good judgment and direction
  • Microsoft office skills and event planning experience are of benefit
  • Valid driver's license

Education and Experience:

  • Degree or Diploma in HR or related discipline
  • Minimum 2-years experience in either HR Coordination or Management 
  • Experience in payroll and benefits administration is required
  • Having a CPHR designation is an asset
